Need a Piano Tuner or Repair
Technician?
If you
want your piano to sound crisp and sharp consistently, it needs to be
tuned - and tuned properly. But did you know there are 3 different
types of piano tuner / technicians out there, but only 1 is actually
certified?
For
your piano to sound the best, it takes a certain
skill level of expertise to tune every string to the exact note. To
sound the best, I recommend using the best.
The
Piano Technicians Guild is a non profit association of piano technicians
and offers 2 levels of certification for professional tuner / technician
members.
Members
of the Piano Technicians Guild are located throughout the USA and Canada
and also in other foreign countries. The guild has two major functions –
1) to provide continued education for professional piano technicians; 2)
to conduct an examinations program to standardize and qualify
technicians as Registered Piano Technicians (RPT).

This
level of technician has several years of experience. They have completed
an exhaustive certification program that takes on average of 2 years to
complete.
There are only 18 RPT’s in the Houston area.

These
individuals are a PTG member, but have not completed the necessary
examinations and requirements to achieve the status of RPT but
are nonetheless a good tuner / technician.
There are
many skilled piano tuner / technicians that are not certified by the PTG,
but we just thought you would like to know what some of the titles and
certifications might mean.
